Heritage Days Open House: March 25, 2017

What is Heritage Days?

Manatee Village's Heritage Days Open house will take place on March 25, 2017 from 11am to 4pm.

This annual festival celebrating Manatee County's history and culture will feature heritage artisans, demonstrations, live music, food vendors, and a make-and-take craft for kids.

Don't miss special performances by the GoodVibes and the St. Pete Sea Shanties in the 1887 Old Meeting House. The GoodVibes will give a lively, interactive performance entitled "The Good Old Days - from the Gay 90s to World War I". For this performance, the GoodVibes will show historical photographs from downtown Bradenton and sing songs popular in the era depicted by each photograph. The St. Pete Sea Shanties will sing traditional tunes sung by sailors, fisherman, and dockworkers during the Age of Sail (ca. 1571-1862).

Men, women, and children are invited to participate in our Second Annual HAIRitage Days Beard and Mustache Competition. This contest has six categories: Full Beard (natural), Partial Beard (natural), Mustache (natural), Freestyle Beard (styling aids permitted), Best Fake Beard Sr. (Ages 13 & up), and Best Fake Beard Jr. (Ages 12 & under). One winner in each category will win a $50 gift card. Registration is $5.00 per participant. This fundraiser will benefit public programming and historic preservation projects at Manatee Village. See below for more information.

    Manatee County Heritage Month

Manatee Village Historical Park is not the only organization hosting a Heritage Days event this March. Our Open House is part of a month-long, county-wide celebration of this area's history and culture.

Palmetto Historical Park, for example, will host a Heritage Festival on March 11 and the Florida Maritime Museum will lead a workshop on canning on March 18.

There will be ice cream socials, workshops, reenactments, festivals, and all kinds of family-friendly activities.
